高校のとき、いつもロックやクラシックをききました。今もロックをいつもききますが、クラシックはあまりききません。高校のとき、わたしのすきなバンドは'Genesis'や'King Crimson'でした。これはコンサートのビデオです：

うちになにがありますか

わたしのうちに大きいテーブルがあります。そのテーブルではわたしのかぞくがばんごはんとあさごはんをたべます。でも、たいていレストランでひるごはんをたべます。

テーブルのちかくにテレビとちゃいろいソファがあります。わたしのかぞくはあまりテレビをみません、でもそのソファのうえではワインをのみます、そしておんがくをききます。

わたしのへやは小さいです。へやにつくえとたんすとベッドがあります。へやでねます、そしてべんきょうします、でもへやであまりあそびません。

PE6 Reflection & Goal

Looking back on my previous PE's, I think I have made good progress on achieving my original goal of increasing my speed in speaking and understanding. For this week's PE, I will focus more on getting the rhythm and intonation as correctly as possible, as I have chosen a slightly slower shadowing part than the earlier ones. I would also like to improve my ability to converse, and to think quickly in Japanese, so for at least one of my future PE's I will record a conversation with a more advanced student.

PE3 Goal Statement

For my last shadowing assignment, I was a bit too ambitious and chose a fairly long and quickly-spoken monologue from ハンターハンター, of which I was only able to shadow a third of. So for this assignment, I picked a monologue longer than what I did last time, to see if I can follow it better this time around. I have high hopes, simply since my Hiragana reading abilities are better than they were two weeks ago. So my goal is to successfully shadow the whole monologue, with intonation and pronunciation at least as good as my last shadowing (which was not bad, in that regard).

PE 1 Reflection

こんばんは！

Today I finished my first PE shadowing assignment. I shadowed part of a monologue from an anime called ハンターハンタ. The monologue can be found here (minute 13:55). I found shadowing this monologue challenging, mostly because of its speed. I think I was ultimately able to follow the model naturally, but it took a little more time than I would like, and it was hard to ween myself off of the script. I would like to try shadowing again, for another PE assignment soon, and see if I will have improved.

Hello world

こんばんは. I chose to study Japanese for a few reasons. My favorite class experience at Princeton thus far was learning German during my first year, and as a senior I'd like to have another similar experience. Numerous friends of mine have taken Japanese here, and have all given it outstanding reviews. But ultimately I'd like to learn a language native to a country in which I'd like to spend some time. Japanese culture has always appealed to me, and struck me as an interesting blend of extreme modernism and steady traditionalism. I've never been to Japan, and I'd like to, but there isn't much point in spending time in a country whose language you can't speak and understand.
